Alpha Mechanical walks the house first, confirms head placement and the line-set route with you, and gives you the schedule in writing before the crew arrives.
Yes. California requires a building permit for any space-conditioning appliance other than a plug-in room unit, per the California Energy Commission. Alpha Mechanical pulls the permit as part of the install and handles the inspection, so the system is legal and the manufacturer's warranty stays intact.
Zone count, not square footage, sets the system and the price. It comes out of a load calculation on your actual floor plan: how the rooms are used, where the sun lands, ceiling height, insulation, and which spaces you want conditioned independently. Alpha Mechanical runs that calculation before quoting rather than sizing off a rule of thumb.
Only whole-home systems qualify. SMUD's Heating and Cooling Rebates require that mini-splits service the entire home and meet the minimum HVAC system requirements, so a single head in a garage, ADU or bedroom does not qualify while the house still heats with gas.
